BET Awards 2009: Best in Beauty

Last night our stars hit the red carpet for the BET Awards, and I was pleasantly surprised at how many divas gave us great hair and makeup last night! I guess everyone wanted to look their best for the event, since everyone and their mama was going to be watching for the Michael Jackson tributes.

So, let's get down to the Best in Beauty!

Beyoncè looked natural, yet glam. I'm loving her beachy waves!


Ciara looked both elegant and pretty. I'm really liking her look these days!


Alicia Keys was a glam goddess last night. Her hair looked super healthy, and her makeup was fun and flirty. A+!


LaLa Vasquez's hair was a little 80s prom, but I think her makeup was on point. She's been looking really fab these days.


My girl Shaun Robinson looked fantastic! Those sleek bangs really suit her.



Mary Mary looked fab, as well. I especially loved Erica Campbell's (left) look. Her black hair color is simple and glamorous, and her makeup was fab!


One of my faves, Zoe Saldana, looked fab as usual. I'm loving the pop of color of her berry lipstick!


Kanye's girl, Amber Rose, looked fierce! I love her bleach blond crop, and that hot pink glossy lip is hot!

Latoya Luckett looked super glamourous last night! Her smokey eye and pink lip is a fave look of mine. Plus, her fring-ey bangs looked hot, too!

Bombshell of the Night

The honor of Bombshell of the Night goes to Janet Jackson. Despite all that she's going through right now, she came out to address the public, and looked fab doing it. That's a true bombshell!

Rest In Peace, MJ

I know this is a beauty blog, but I just have to take a moment to pay my respects to Michael Jackson. For an 80's baby like me, no artist had a bigger musical influence on me than Michael Jackson.

One of my earliest musical memories is of sitting on the floor in front of the living room TV, watching a VHS of MJ's music videos that my dad bought for me and my brother. We watched that tape over and over again, transfixed by the music and Michael's dancing, our imaginations captured by the images (the "Leave Me Alone" video and the video where he dance battled that rabbit always got me).

There will never be an artist who had such a profound affect on music and popular culture. Not only is his music and dance style emulated by artists from Usher to Justin Timberlake, but his style and unique fashion sense can be seen today in pop princess Rhianna.

So, I'll be listening to the MJ channel on AOL radio today in honor of this American Icon, while sending prayers out to his family, friends and fans the world over. We'll miss you, Mike!

L'Oreal Found Guilty of Racial Discrimination

L'Oreal was found guilty of racial discrimination by La Cour de Cassation (the French equivilent of the Supreme Court).

The London Times reports:

Prosecutors said that Garnier wanted to exclude members of the ethnic minorities on the ground that they would be less likely to sell its shampoo in French shops. The court was told that only 4.65 percent of the hostesses hired for Garnier’s campaign were black, Asian, or Arab. Before the BBR fax went out, the agency had been offering a pool of candidates in which 38.7 percent were from ethnic minorities, suggesting that they had been blocked during the final stages of recruitment.

This isn't the first time L'Oreal has been in trouble like this. Remember those super-light Beyoncè ads last year (and I'm almost positive they changed her nose in those ads)?
