MAC Posessed by Pink Lip Kit

I opened my inbox this morning to see a email from MAC, debuting their much anticipated holiday collection.

What stood out for me were all the palettes MAC is offering this holiday season. Palettes for the face, eyes and lips fill the collection, but I was most excited to see the Possesed by Pink Lip Kit, $22.50.

These luscious berry shades were made to be worn on deeper skin tones! From caramel to cocoa, I guarantee that any brown skinned babe will look amazing in these fabulous colors! I can't wait to get my hands on this adorable kit. I'll be wearing it out with the girls, to holiday parties, and everywhere in between!

Jin Soon for MAC Fall 2009

MAC is really killing it with their collections lately. This fall they're upping their nail polish game and are releasing a collection of polishes created by nail guru Jin Soon Choi.

Jin Soon's lush nail spa is located in NYC's West Village, and is frequented by celebs and chic Manhattanites alike (Sarah Jessica Parker, anyone?). Jin Soon can also be seen season after season, polishing the tips of models before they strut down the runway at NYC Fashion Week. Needless to say, she's the right woman to create a slick and trendy line of lacquers for MAC.

The collection consists of six shades, and will be released August 27th in the States, and in September internationally. Check it out (I'm all over Dry Martini!)!

MAC Friends and Family Sale Starts Today!

Hey all! MAC's Friends and Family sale has officially begun!

Enter code SUMO or SAVE25 for 25% off your order, today through Thursday!

I entered code "SAVE25" and picked up two LipGlass shades from the naked Honey Collection, and the Skin Sheen Leg spray from the Style Warrior Collection. As soon as I receive them I'll post a review and pics!

Note: Apparently MAC is only offering free shipping on orders over $60 after the discount, and not on all orders, as this flier states. How do I know this? Because I had to pay for shipping!

MAC Style Warrior Collection

MAC has announced their new Style Warrior Collection, out on May 28th.

The packaging looks kind of cheesy, but the makeup itself looks really wearable. Very neutral chic with splashes of color. Very on trend right now.

I'm looking forward to trying a few of the Lipstick and Lipglass shades, $14 each, and the Skinsheen in Dark and Deep Dark, $22.50. Check out the prices below (Shout out to the Fresh Fiends for the scoop!).

What will you be trying from the new collection?

Michelle Obama and Mom Cover Essence

The lovely Michelle Obama and her equally lovely mother cover the May issue of Essence Magazine. Loves It! Head over to Essence.com for more behind the scenes pics.

I'd love to know what products were used to glam up the First Lady and her mom (they'll never tell), but I'm pretty certain makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Myles was applying MAC Powder Blush in Raizin, $18 (a classic for brown girls) in this photo. I'd be willing to bet money!

MAC Cremesheen Glass

I can't believe I didn't write about this sooner! I bought MAC's new Cremesheen Glass lip gloss several weeks ago, and have been loving it. I'm kinda over lipgloss in general (The goopy, greasy, I-just-ate-fried-chicken look? Not feeling it.), but this is perfect.

Cremesheen Glass is creamy and moisturizing like a lipstick or lip balm, but gives you a nice, grown-up, shiny gloss. Plus, it stays put, and doesn't run all all over your mouth. I'm telling you, all lip glosses should aspire to be this good. I have it in Creme Anglais, a sheer pink shade that's perfect for brown skin.

Here's a swatch (ignore the color in the pic above):

Sadly, this glossy wonder is Limited Edition and will be leaving MAC counters soon (I finally find something from MAC I like and its leaving!), so get there soon.

Here Kitty Kitty!

MAC has released the Hello Kitty collection early! Head to your nearest MAC freestanding store or Nordstrom ASAP to snap up these goodies. I have a feeling they'll be going fast! Here's what I have my eye on:

Clockwise from left:

Hello Kitty Eyeshadow x 4 in Lucky Tom, $38, Plush Lash Mascara in PlushBlack, $12, Hello Kitty Lipstick in Most Popular, $14, Hello Kitty Nail Lacquer in Something About Pink, $11, Hello Kitty Purse Mirror, $22, Hello Kitty Tinted Lip Conditioner in Pink Fish, $14.50, Hello Kitty Lipglass in Sweet Strawberry, $14

Barbie vs. Hello Kitty

There was a fun piece in the NY Times today about a Fashion Week battle between Barbie and Hello Kitty, two of my childhood favorites. Both toy icons will have designers creating frocks inspired by them showing at the tents next week. Fabulous, yes, but what does this have to do with beauty? Well the two divas are taking their beef to a cosmetic counter near you!

In honor of Barbie’s 50th birthday, Mattel is teaming up with Stila to release the Barbie Loves Stila Collection, exclusively at Sephora. The collection features a talking eye shadow quad and four make-up tins. Each of the tins has the image of a popular vintage Barbie and the Stila products needed to recreate her look. The Black Barbie included in the collection is the 1980 Foxy doll. I would like to say that I’m feeling this collection, but I’m not sure how I feel about it. Foxy looks gorge, but I feel like she got jipped in the makeup department. I like the shadows and blush, but they have nothing to do with that tangerine lip gloss. Some brown and olive skinned beauties gave the kit great reviews on Sephora, so maybe it’s just me.

On the flip side, MAC is set to release its much-hyped Hello Kitty Colour Collection. The collection, to be released February 12th, is set to include Hello Kitty inspired versions of MAC's lipglass, beauty powder, nail polish, blush and other MAC favorites. There will also be a higher end Hello Kitty Kouture collection of limited edition Hello Kitty accessories, including a mirrored compact, brush kit and other goodies, some studded with Swarovski crystals. The collection will be available at MAC stores, Nordstrom and maccosmetics.com. Hello Kitty is a childhood obsession of mine that I never quite got over, but I don’t know that these super-bright colors are working for me. I might pick up an accessory or two from the Kouture line.

(Side note: For all you Smurfs fans, Too Faced Cosmetics has created a limited edition collection inspired by Smurfette, available at Sephora. I know. This mess is getting waay out of control.)

What about you ladies? Any plans to revive your inner baby diva and pick up any of these collections? And while you're at it, have any thoughts on why these kinds of collections are becoming so popular? Let’s hear it!
